Meet the medical team

This site names the team that writes, reviews and performs. The guides are led and medically reviewed by Tongchun Mao, MD, who performs body contouring and staged surgery after major weight loss here; the colleagues below contribute the surgical standards and the skin expertise that a fold of excess skin so often needs before anything else can be planned.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Body contouring after weight loss · breast and body surgery

Dr. Tongchun Mao is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its aesthetic surgery service at Chongqing West District Hospital, and the lead physician for this site's content on loose skin after major weight loss. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, he has rooted his clinical practice for more than 20 years and personally performs over 700 operations a year.

His body practice covers abdominoplasty, liposuction, thigh and arm contouring, breast reduction for symptomatic macromastia, mastopexy and breast augmentation, and staged contouring after major weight loss. His facial practice covers rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, facial bone contouring and lifting. Across all of it his stated approach is the same: measure before designing, choose the smallest operation that achieves the stated goal, and stay honest about scars, about the recovery each stage costs, and about the fact that the final result is judged many months later.

Clinical focus

  • Assessment of excess skin: how much is skin and how much is fat
  • Abdominoplasty and repair of the abdominal wall
  • Liposuction and body contouring
  • Thigh, arm and back contouring after weight loss
  • Breast reduction, mastopexy and breast augmentation
  • Staged planning for contouring after major weight loss

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Rhinoplasty and Trunk Tumor Groups, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Medical Aesthetics Quality Control Center; Member, Chongqing Medical Accident / Disability Assessment Expert Pools
  • Deputy Chair, Chongqing Shapingba District Medical Aesthetics Committee

  • Repeatedly named an Outstanding Young Physician at Xinqiao Hospital since joining in 2005

Staging is a safety decision

More than 700 operations a year counts only alongside selection. After major weight loss the useful conversation is not how much can be done but how much should be done at once — and the honest answer is usually less than the patient hoped and more than they feared.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Center leadership · surgical standards

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Center Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. He leads the team in which Dr. Mao practises, and carries responsibility for the center's standards of surgical planning, safety and follow-up.

For patients, that role is the guarantee that an individual surgeon's plan sits inside a departmental system: standardised preoperative assessment, anaesthesia delivered by hospital teams, and a defined follow-up after every operation. For a staged body-contouring plan, which asks a great deal of a patient over many months, that departmental framework is the thing that keeps the sequence safe.

Clinical focus

  • Repair of unsatisfactory cosmetic operations, including revision and reconstruction
  • Surgical planning standards and case selection
  • Complex wound repair and departmental safety review

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser aesthetics · perioperative care

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service at Chongqing West District Hospital. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years.

Within this service her role is everything the skin itself needs: treating the rashes and maceration that form in a fold, preparing skin before a stage of surgery, and managing the long scars afterwards so that they have the best chance of maturing well.

Clinical focus

  • Skin problems in folds: rash, maceration and infection
  • Scar management after body contouring surgery

He graduated from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and trained in dermatology at the Institute of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and at Chongqing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Clinical focus

  • Fungal and bacterial skin infection in skin folds
  • Inflammatory skin disease and skin health before surgery
